Davao Chambers Call for United Development

(Press Release) Heeding calls for concerted development efforts in the Davao Region, the re-energized Federation of Davao Region Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FDRCCI) will conduct the 8th Davao Region Business Conference (DRBC) on September 19, 2009 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas during the celebration of the Davao Trade Expo (DATE) 2009.

Numerous studies and findings from various sectoral consultations have clearly pointed out the complementary roles that each geographical unit should play for the benefit of the entire region—be it in the area of food security, tourism, information communications technology (ICT), trade and commerce, and environmental protection.

The absence of regional sectoral master plans crafted by the region's stakeholders has been a major factor leading to fragmentation.

This divisive “kanya-kanya” mindset has been counter productive and has, at certain times, led to competition between and among the region's local government units (LGUs) and the private sector.

In these trying times, most especially when resources are meager as a result of a global economic crisis, strategic win-win solutions are most warranted.

The DRBC, revived after a two-year hiatus, strives to bring back unity among the Davao business chambers. The conference theme: “One Davao. One Progress” is most fitting as the various chambers and LGUs openly acknowledge the fact that the Davao Gulf region has much to gain from the wholistic development and the maximum utilization of its cross-jurisdictional resources.

Hosted by the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII), the Conference will highlight discussions on issues affecting the Region's drivers, namely: agriculture and fisheries, mining and environmental protection, ICT, and tourism.

The DRBC will also be the venue for the induction of DRFCCI's newly elected officers. Member chambers of the Federation include Davao Oriental Eastern CCI, IGACOS CCI, Tagum City CCI, Nabunturan CCI, Mt. Apo CCI, Sta. Cruz CCI, Kapalong CCI, Panabo CCI, Pantukan CCI, and DCCCII.
