Davao Trade Expo promises to be bolder on its 10th year

(article was originally written by DCCCII PMT Staff Cherry Concon for the 2nd issue of the DCCCII Quarterly Business Post) The Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Incorporated (DCCCII) elevates itself with pride as it once more pushes the longest running trade expo in Davao, the Davao Trade Expo (DATE) 2008. Set on October 23-25, 2008 at the Davao Convention and Trade Center (Davcon), DCCCII is looking forward to showcase this year’s theme “Davao: Land of Great Opportunities and Endless Possibilities”.

The theme came about in response to the need for Davao, in particular, and Mindanao as a whole, to uplift its image, from being an area of active hostility to an area of active economic activities and investment destinations.

The image of Mindanao being a war zone has been a constant source of discomfort for investors; making them despondent to invest not only in Davao but also in nearby areas in Mindanao. Thus, DCCCII challenges Davao’s neighboring cities to take DATE as an opportunity for them to overturn the negative image the media has created and make the event as a venue to promote their respective industries.

Among Davao’s neighboring cities/provinces that have shown interest to join DATE 2008 are Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS), Province of Davao del Norte, Digos City, Tagum City, and Kidapawan City/ Province of North Cotabato. Accordingly, North Cotabato Tourism and Investment & Promotions Officer expresses a great challenge as to how Cotabato must be showcased as a city of peace amidst the rampant undercurrent security crisis in the area.

Moreover, DATE 2008 is also capitalizing on the rising Information and Communication’s Technology (ICT) activities in the city as this event opens up more business matching opportunities between this sector and other participant-sectors such as Industry, Agriculture and Professional Service and Ventures.

Being the prime mover of economic activities in Davao, DCCCII have made DATE as a provider of business opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) in Davao for 10 glorious years now.

Celebrating ten years of success, DATE which was launched last July 11, 2008 at the Davao Convention and Trade Center, promises to surpass the previous DATEs in terms of visitors, participants, exhibitors, and booked sales. With barely seventy days to go, the DCCCII, through the DATE 2008 Steering Committee and the DCCCII Professional Management Team (PMT), being the organizer for this grandiose annual event, is intensively campaigning and coordinating with other Local Government Units (LGUs).
