IBM extends technical assistance to DCCCII
From July to September of 2008, with the initiative of the PAHRDF, DCCCII became a recipient of the Australian Business Volunteers (ABV) program. ABV is an international, development agency helping developing countries in terms of sourcing and supplying highly skilled and very experienced Volunteers to work alongside counterparts in the client organization (www.abv.org.au, 2008). In this case, ABV chose to work with DCCCII, ICT Davao and the Davao Tourism Association (DATA).
Since most of the assistance sought by DCCCII has to do with Information Technology, volunteers sourced by ABV came from the world’s largest computer company, IBM, in various parts of the world such as China, India, Brazil, Singapore, USA, Canada and Philippines. Volunteers occupy senior expert positions in the company and have extensive experiences in areas where assistance are needed.
One significant output of the short-term and long-term trainings on Knowledge Management provided by the Philippines Australia Human Resource Development Facility (PAHRDF) was a re-designed and further customized web portal – www.davaochamber.com. It is, however, a desire of the Chamber to continue improving the portal to be more attractive and friendly for users.
ABVolunteers Sreejith N. Sankarapillai of IBM India and Liang L. Zhang of IBM China served both as advisors and facilitators between DCCCII and DabaweGNU, the chamber portal’s developer. Considering the vast areas existing for the Chamber to improve its portal, Sankarapillai and Zhang facilitated meetings and dialogues that would allow pulling together of comments from users, primarily from the DCCCII Professional Management Team (PMT) to be raised to the web developers to be looked at and improved for ease of use and increased usage and value.
Also part of the intervention was a re-orientation session/training on the new interface of the re-designed portal. This training/session was conducted by DabaweGNU President Holden Hao and facilitated by Sankarapillai and Zhang. It was an occasion wherein the PMT were enlightened on the new functionalities of the portal and how they should used it to maximize the purpose it is intended to serve.
Currently, the portal has been more updated as it previously was. The contributions from the PMT and some DCCCII members are great additions. DCCCII KM Committee headed by Yvonne F. Cabada and Mark Maglana hope that with this gradual improvement, the portal will be able to eventually serve its function and indeed be a repository of pieces of information and knowledge relevant to the business community, in particular, and the whole web community, in general.
DCCCII continues to encourage you to visit www.davaochamber.com, browse through it, upload or access information or knowledge that are valuable to you or if those you need is not available or if you have other suggestions for improvement, feel free to comment.
